ELVIS is in the house!

ELVIS is in the house!

Happy Halloween!! As cute as Sebastian was as a little monkey last year, with Bebe in China for the better part of October, there was no way Mommy G could pull off such a major sewing project. Still wanting something home made, Mommy G bought her first glue gun, some double stick felt and velcro, 5 yards of gold rick rack and some awesome red tassels. Thank you parents magazine and the makers of glue gun for this needle free Elvis. The first few times I put the costume on Sebastian, he would whine "No no No" very pathetically and pull on the belt. Worried that we were going to have a hawaiian shirt episode (ask Mommy G or Grandpa for the story on that one) Mommy G took action and made the costume "fun" by showing him how exciting red tassels on your arm can be (you try it!). And how fun it is to slick back your hair. After a few trial runs, he even wore the belt for Halloween!! and if you ask nice, he'll say "Hound Dog"....

On a side note, apologies for the lack of postings for the last 6 weeks, besides the standard chaos our trusty camera is in the shop and we haven't been able to take any pictures!! Sebastian and Mommy G spent a lovely week up in Spokane in late September, the whole family went with Auntie Jen to a pumpkin patch (jen did take a pic of that--I'll dig it up), and lots of other things that I can't remember. Hope that camera gets fixed soon!!

Sebastian, I mean Elvis, spends so much time with Dave down in the studio he knows the difference between a guitar and a balalaika, so he can certainly spot a tissue box glue gunned to a paper towel roll glue gunned to a mac and cheese box, all spray painted black, trying to be a "guitar".

What a ham. He may not have liked the costume at first, but now that he knows that chicks dig it, he might never take it off!

After our nice walk, and a lovely stroll through the hotel, a carraige ride back to the boat sure sounded nice...

After docking in Victoria, we took a nice leisurely walk to the Empress Hotel. Along the way we found this Auggie look alike...or is it really Augs?

The saddest, sweetest part of the whole cruise was when our waiter for the week expressed how wonderful it was for him to spend time with Sebastian this week, because it's been so long since he's seen his own son--the Indonesian and Phillipino crew on the ship has year long contracts--a whole year before they see their families!

Every stream in Ketchikan was teaming with salmon. We sat at a bridge for awhile just watching them trying to make it upstream. We also saw a lot of fish who had already made it upstream, layed their eggs and died. What a life!

They met while recovering from their various injuries and fell in love--eagles mate for life and it seemed very fortuitous that these eagles, both unable to fly, would find each other....This pair resides in Ketchikan at the fish hatchery.

We spent Friday morning in Ketchikan, famous for its totems--and boy did we see a lot!! We walked from the ship to the totem museum and fish hatchery, then back to town and up a small tram to the West Coast Hotel, then a short walk back down to town and back onto the ship (after a little shopping and a stop to the best chocolate shop---Ketchicandy!)

Thursday took us to the former Russian settlement of Sitka where we toured a Russian Orthodox church, did a little shopping, had a nice walk around the spot where Russia sold Alaska to the US (that's where this picture was taken), had some lunch, took in a show of Russian dancers, then went back to the boat to collapse! Deb spent the morning out on a smaller boat, surrounded by whales so close you could hear them spouting!

Midnight buffet on Wednesday was a dessert extravaganza. Mommy G and Sebastian were too tired from our long day in Juneau, but Uncle Ash and Daddy D took full advantage of the endless sweets (and even brought a few back for Mommy G!)
