Cook for the Cure

I'm not really the Race for the Cure type. Or the Run or Walk or (with 3 kids) I can't even manage to Sleep In for the Cure (although I would love to do that!). So when I came across "Cook for the Cure" in one of my cooking magazines (where else?!), it seemed too perfect. I grabbed my visa, and made internet impulse purchase number 867. It's a plate. You make something. Put it on the plate. Then give it to someone. Log on to the website, record your "pass" of the plate, and kitchenaid donates $5 to breast cancer research. How easy (and so perfect for me!) is that?! Well, not quite as easy as you'd think. I spent awhile trying to figure out WHO I was going to give it to. (my sister Jen) Then WHAT I was going to make. (oatmeal butterscotch chocolate cookies) Cookies baked and set on plate. Family comes to dinner, family eats all cookies, in the midst of which Jen exclaims "You're not giving that to ME are you?!". Well, I guess not. You didn't want it, and we ate all the cookies before you could take it anyways. Take 2. Learning from the mistakes of take #1, I made TWO desserts (huckle buckle, another of the Baker & Spice test recipes for Julie's book--YUM!). One huckle buckle to eat WITH the Lisles that night, and one to send them home with, on the plate. I can't wait to see where the plate ends up and how much money it will raise on its journey....

Goodbye weekend...

After 5 years at their pearl loft, Bebe, Grandpa, Jen, Ajay & Sofia bid adieu to their apartment and said hello to their super charming mid-century modern home in the burbs. As an added surprise for the Farewell Weekend, Auntie Nat flew up from LA. Yah! The weekend was jam-packed with "one lasts"---we had our final Duvoisin Group meeting at the loft, Grandpa made pizza for all Saturday night which we followed up with a stroll down to Mio Gelato. Sunday we headed to Isabel's for a nice lunch before Nat had to head back to LA. Later that afternoon, Bebe & Grandpa took the monsters in the Jamison Square Fountain. One last time. We followed this with one last trip to Piazza Italia and Cool Moon Ice Cream. I can't imagine Portland without Jen & Ajay, and now Sofia, Jacqueline, Paul & Noah, and the bi-weekly or so visits from Bebe & Grandpa, and feel very lucky that they're all here with us!! Thanks guys!!

It's OK Georgia!

Where's Fleschners?

I'm not going to say we were BORED, we just had a little spare time on our hands....

More from early September visits

The same weekend Nonna and Nonno were here, Bebe & Grandpa were able to visit as well. Here's a couple quick shots of Bebe with baby g, a rare picture of Eloise & Sofia NOT trying to kill each other, and a portrait of grandpa taking a picture of Sebastian taking his picture...Highlights of the weekend included our usual jaunt to the Farmer's Market to collect our CSA bin, a fantastic dinner at tastebud Saturday evening, Sunday brunch at our house, and lots of visiting!

Nonna and Nonno come to visit!

Nonna and Nonno just couldn't stay away -- lucky us! It was a very quick visit, but Georgia loved meeting her Nonna & Nonno. Can't you tell?
