I'm not really the Race for the Cure type. Or the Run or Walk or (with 3 kids) I can't even manage to Sleep In for the Cure (although I would love to do that!). So when I came across "Cook for the Cure" in one of my cooking magazines (where else?!), it seemed too perfect. I grabbed my visa, and made internet impulse purchase number 867. It's a plate. You make something. Put it on the plate. Then give it to someone. Log on to the website, record your "pass" of the plate, and kitchenaid donates $5 to breast cancer research. How easy (and so perfect for me!) is that?! Well, not quite as easy as you'd think. I spent awhile trying to figure out WHO I was going to give it to. (my sister Jen) Then WHAT I was going to make. (oatmeal butterscotch chocolate cookies) Cookies baked and set on plate. Family comes to dinner, family eats all cookies, in the midst of which Jen exclaims "You're not giving that to ME are you?!". Well, I guess not. You didn't want it, and we ate all the cookies before you could take it anyways. Take 2. Learning from the mistakes of take #1, I made TWO desserts (huckle buckle, another of the Baker & Spice test recipes for Julie's book--YUM!). One huckle buckle to eat WITH the Lisles that night, and one to send them home with, on the plate. I can't wait to see where the plate ends up and how much money it will raise on its journey....
